A learning journey
My name is Silvia and I live in a beautiful place called Asturias, in Northern Spain. It's a green land with amazing landscapes. This is a picture that I took in my city's favourite place, the Naranco, a little mountain where I can be in close contact with nature and breathe some fresh air:
I'm one of those fortunate people who like their job. I work as a Chemistry researcher in University and love teaching as well, so I hope to get a permanent position as a University teacher one day in the future. I came back to Spain in 2004 after finishing a two years postdoctorate at Stanford University, in California (USA). The experience of living abroad was wonderful, both academically and personally, and I keep great memories and good friends from my stay there.
I'm a person in a continuous learning journey, who likes to see the coin from both sides, so I'm always open to new perspectives and ideas. Besides science, I have many hobbies and interests in life. I write poetry since a child, and like dancing, travelling and photography. I'm also interested in the spiritual world, and practice Tai Chi, Chi Kung and meditation. I like learning new languages, so far I speak Spanish (my mother tongue), English and can manage a bit with German. I enjoy working with computers (both PCs and macs) and since a few years I'm learning to create webpages. You can visit my webpage here: http://www.silviamar.com

I'd like to end this introduction with my first poem written in English instead of in my mother tongue:

SHE KNOWS
She knows my dream.
She used to tell me secrets
while I was asleep,
she used to light up the darkness
keeping sadness away from me.
She knows my wish.
She used to show me
magic colors behind the trees,
she used to blow the clouds
and dance with me in the wind.
She knows how I feel.
Since I was a baby
she floods my soul with peace,
taking my hand with love
promising never to leave.
Do you know who she is?
Look deeply in your heart
and there she will be.
